The famous Cannes film festival has kicked off, and today a star of Polish cinema will be making a special appearance, along with a film classic. Director Andrzej Wajda, creator of such famous pieces as Ashes and Diamonds and the Man of Marble films, will be present at the screening of his film Canal. First released in 1957, the picture was one of the first to portray the horrors and heroism of the Warsaw Uprising, and received a Special Award of the jury of that year's Cannes festival. Fifty years later, a restored copy of the film will be shown as part of the “Cannes Classics” series, and will be personally introduced by Wajda. |
