An ambitious project is underway to resurrect a complex of eighteenth century buildings on the fringe of Krakow. Jerzy Donimirski, creator of such acclaimed Krakow hotels as Korzkiew Castle, Hotel Grodek and Hotel Maltanski, has set his sights on yet another Krakow challenge.
The new hotel is set to emerge in the grounds of the famed Bialy Pradnik Manor, a former summer residence of the Bishops of Krakow. The new enterprise - Hotel Kosciuszko - takes its name from Tadeusz Kosciuszko, hero of Poland's struggle to maintain independence. Legend has it that the great man rested here in April 1794 before his victory over the Russians at the Battle of Raclawice. This battle - one of the most mythologised in Polish history - is remembered as a small Polish force triumphed over the invading Russians. Kosciuszko, a liberal-minded nobleman, won over large numbers of the local peasantry, who joined the fight with pikes and scythes.
Guests at the hotel shouldn't have to worry too much about battles erupting these days. As it goes, the Bialy Pradnik Park is an idyllic retreat from Krakow's hubbub, with several acres of pastures and woodland to enjoy. Its romantic character has made it a popular place for Krakovians to get married, and the new hotel looks set to heighten this appeal.
Hotel Kosciuszko's rooms will be spread across two floors, with eleven doubles on the ground level and another fourteen on the first floor. All rooms in the hotel will be air-conditioned, and a lift is being installed for disabled access. The entire hotel will be sound-proofed and fitted with the most modern safety precautions.
Hotel Kosciuszko is set for an Autumn opening, although there's still a good deal to be done before then. A virtual model of the hotel and its surroundings can be viewed on the link below:
