Landmarks groomed for Anniversary of Location

Plans are afoot to open up the city's medieval fortifications for the 750th Anniversary of the Location of Cracow this June.

Cracow's Historical Museum is championing the project, and they're now awaiting final confirmation from the city authorities.

The new trail would encompass a 100 yard stretch along the remaining parts of the medieval wall, taking in three defensive bastions. Visitors will also be able to step inside the chapel above St. Florian's Gate, which is adorned with priceless polychromy.

Meanwhile, cobbling continues at apace over on Maly Rynek, the 'Little Market Square' behind St. Mary's. Again, this project aims for completion this June, when the square will be officially opened by the Mayor of Cracow. With the car park gone and the plaza recobbled, Maly Rynek will be crowned by a statue of Prince Boleslas the Shy, the chaste ruler who rebuilt Cracow 750 years ago.
