The annual Christmas Crib competition was on the verge of Monty Python type mayhem when it opened this morning on the Market Square. The organisers inaugurated a new policy of presenting the creches on stage, and as scores of grandmas and grandpas from across the world thronged the action, the scene seemed more reminiscent of a rock concert (albeit one for grannies) than a nativity display. Cracow Life's valiant scribbler even managed to get a hook in the nose from one wide-eyed grandpa - accidentally we should stress! But it was all part of the fun, and although there were a few close shaves, none of the precious cribs were squashed to smithereens.
Just after midday, as tradition dictated, the cribs were carried - or wheeled in the case of the giant entrants - to the Cracow History Museum on the other side of the square. If you want to check out the designs, head over and find a favourite.
