Fallen Leaves

As little as four years ago, Cracow resembled a ghost town on November 1st. As All Saints got underway, every last shop shut its doors, and it was difficult even to buy a bottle of water, let alone a roll for breakfast.

These days, the candle-lit rituals at the cemeteries continue, but owing to the boom in tourism, visitors will be able to savour a bit of both worlds. Plenty of shops will be closed on the 1st, and all museums. But you won't be utterly stranded. In the heart of the Old Town, a fair few restaurants and cafes will remain open, whilst on Thursday (All Souls) things will be pretty much back to normal. If you're new to Cracow, don't miss the chance to drop into one of the old cemeteries, where candles will flicker on through Friday and Saturday. It's one of the most magical times of the year in Poland. Click the link below for more info.
