A new dumpling shack on the block ran away with both prizes at this year's Pierogi Festival. 'Krolestwo Pierozka', (The Kingdom of the Pierog), was celebrating last night after trouncing six rivals at the much-loved annual event on the Little Market Square.
The public chose a sweet confection as their favourite this year, with the prize going to Krolestwo Pierozka's summer pierogi with cherries and poppy seeds. The judges were equally impressed by the mysterious new pierogi master of KP, voting the restaurant's savoury choice with meat as the outstanding dish of the festival.
If you missed the event, never fear, as you can find the victorious restaurant at ul. Kurniki just off Plac Matejki. The newly crowned statue of St. Jack should already have taken pride of place over the counter, and he'll be hanging out there till the festival leaps back to life in August 2007.
*Winning restaurant 2006*: Krolestwo Pierozka, ul. Kurniki 3, Tel: 0 (12) 431 95 41
