A contender for the crown of the most luxurious Krakow hotel opened this week just off the Main Market Square. Hotel Stary is the latest enterprise from the Likus brothers, who own a range of high-flying businesses in Cracow and elsewhere.

Hotel Stary has resuscitated a very fine mansion that had been standing vacant for many years now. Although the former aristocratic residence was in a pretty morose state, many priceless features have been saved. The exquisitely painted ceiling of the first floor salon is regarded by art historians as one of the finest of its kind in Cracow.

The hotel takes it's name from the Stary Teatr (The Old Theatre) just on the corner, and it is designed to meet the criteria of a five star hotel. It blends classic features with modern convenience, in a similar style to the firm's other Cracovian hotels - Copernicus and Pod Roza, both popular choices amongst well-heeled travellers.
