Besides New Year's Eve, today is the only day of the year when a group of Stag-Nighters will not stick out like a sore thumb. That's right, Juvenalia has returned, and Anglo-Saxon revelers would have to pull off something pretty spectacular to match the pottiness of today's antics.
According to a time-honoured tradition, students are given the keys to the city for one jubilant day each year. Thousands of wide-eyed ravers in fancy dress will descend on the Main Market Square for concerts, a bit of booze and a bit more booze. In fact, you'll probably have never seen such queues at the liquor stores as appear on this madcap morn.
If you were planning on having a quiet coffee on the square and soaking up the romantic architecture, save it for tomorrow. However, Juvenalia is a spectacle in itself, and Cracow simply wouldn't be Cracow without its eccentric traditions and customs. And of course, if you don't have any other plans, there's nothing to stop you from joining in - long Live Juvenalia!
