Long Live Radio!
We know that in this day and age you can download the A to Z of music in the blink of an eye, and that you can put a million and one songs onto a minidisc and never have to buy a CD again. But we'd like to forget about all that high fangled technology for a moment. Yes, the download wizardry is all well and good, but we want to give the old skool stuff a plug today. In fact, we've made a fantastic discovery....... Polish radio rocks da house! Yes, our attempts to sound hip sound suspiciously rubbish. But before you think we've gone mad, we're not talking about Radio Maria and that rudeboy extraordinaire, Father T Rydzyk. Nor are we talking about the station that always plays 80s power ballads from dawn till dusk (even though Nik Kershaw still hits the spot from time to time we can't deny). No, we'd like to recommend two stations that we were totally unaware of for a couple of years now (big drum-roll please) Radio Bis and Radio Jazz.
Now, both of these stations can play complete rubbish from time to time, and when it comes to music, peoples personal tastes are very particular. But we reckon that this Polish pair will soon have you hooked.
As it goes, Bis - which plays a lot of clubby tunes - overlaps with Radio Jazz musically. This is because Radio Jazz rarely plays conventional jazz, and Radio Bis rarely plays conventional clubby tunes. Both veer towards the more experimental side of things, and the evening sessions are especially good, not least Mondays. There's a lot of hype about London being a hip musical capital, but having listened to a load of London stations over the years, we've decided that the Polish ones have much better taste and individuality. But enough dry analysis! Tune in, turn on and have a boogie while you make your evening pierogi....
