Cracow's museums will shut up shop from Saturday through until Tuesday morning, so if you're in town at the moment, here are some tips on what you might catch before the weekend begins.
First up, we wholeheartedly recommend visiting the Ethnographic Museum (Plac Wolnica 1, Kazimierz). This oft-neglected star is a magical place, and especially inspiring at this time of year. Head upstairs and savour the magnificent 'pisanki' Easter Egg exhibition, which will bowl over both contemporary artists and traditionalists alike. The custom of painting eggs stretches back to pagan times, and pisanki are an essential part of the Polish Easter table. You'll also discover many other charming Polish Easter traditions, and the ground floor is a gloriously surreal adventure into different regions of the country, with each room an authentic example of a folk interior.
There are also some other fantastic exhibitions on at the moment that we can't resist recommending. The National Museum has a superb show entitled ' Treasures from the Black Sea' as well as a small but magnificent Chagall exhibition, 'Commedia dell' Arte.' Genuinely spell-binding. Also not to be missed is the newly renovated Gallery of Polish Painting, the entrance to which adjoins the Chagall show. Catch them while you can!
