A delegation of Polish higher educational institutions held a seminar on studying in Poland here on Monday, with the aim of attracting more Chinese students.

Members of the delegation, most of whom are university heads and professors, said Polish universities and colleges have a relatively small number of Chinese students, something they are looking to rectify.

The delegation members listed the advantages of studying in Poland, including high-quality education, hundreds of years of tradition in research, the presence of numerous outstanding scientists, a friendly and open society, and a comparatively low cost of living but a fairly good quality of life.

One of the university heads present said Chinese students who have got a bachelor's degree can get a master's degree after another two to three years' study in Poland.

Another noted that as Poland is part of the European Union's educational system, Chinese students can continue to study in other EU countries after they have studied in Poland for one or two years.

Polish Ambassador to China Krzysztof Szumski also attended the briefing. According to his statistics, only several hundred Chinese students have studied in Poland since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1949. The current number of foreign students studying in Poland is about 9,000, among whom only about 200 are Chinese.

An official with the Chinese Ministry of Education said according to a bilateral agreement, China and Poland will send 35 college students each year to study in each other's universities with government funding.
