Medical specialists in south-eastern Poland have begun a protest against low pay. About 1,000 doctors from 13 medical clinics are to be absent at work, having taken an opportunity of a one day leave on demand. Patients were warned in advance of the protest action. Only patients whose life is in danger are received.

Medical specialists in the region are demanding a 30 percent pay rise. Presently, their average monthly salary is between 1,400 zlotys to 1,600 zlotys, that is some 450 to 500 US dollars. The south-eastern Podkarpacie province is the first to see such a protest action.
