Coming from a country where everyone likes to talk about the weather, it's a relief to find that the Poles are joining in at the moment. The main consensus is that it's decidedly cold out there. And when the Poles say its cold, you know that you really will need that thick pair of socks (and about 50 jumpers for good measure).
Temperatures have been skimming -25 over the last few days, and large quantities of mulled wine are being consumed. However, provided that you wrap up warm, it's all rather invigorating and inspiring. The combined sun and snow has a cleansing effect, and there aren't the crowds of visitors that you'll get later in the season. So if you're feeling cheated by Mother Nature for all those White Christmases that never materialized when you were a child, hop on a plane to Polska. Of course, yuletide yodelers will enjoy the fact that the Christmas decorations don't even have to come down until 2nd February in this this neck of the woods - why do the Anglo Saxons have to be such spoilsports by ending it all on January 6th?
