Hotel Copernicus

Copernicus is considered the premier Krakow hotel, with an outstanding restaurant and service throughout that's second to none. It's not cheap, but you will be hard pushed to find a better place to stay or eat if you want the best the city has to offer. Its location on the beautifully-restored Kanonicza Street, right next to Wawel Castle, makes it picture-postcard pretty, and worth a trip even if you don't plan to stay. Have a coffee in the shadow of the castle and feel (albeit temporarily) like a king. Elegant perfection.

"Extremely difficult to get rooms in this marvellous hotel, especially in the high season, so suggest you book well in advance! Krakow at its finest! "

"'Elegant' does not begin to describe the Copernicus - it really is amazing. Our room was beautiful, clean, and the staff helped out with whatever we needed. Will stay here again next time I'm in Krakow!"

"There is simply no better hotel in Cracow than this. We've been coming to the city regularly for about 5 or 6 years now, and always stay at the Copernicus. It has genuine class, a beautiful interior with many original features, and a lovely restaurant. Seems to get a bit busier every year, but mostly we now visit out of season so there's no problem getting a room."

"Probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The rooms are spacious and superbly furnished. The staff were so friendly and excellent at their jobs and couldnt do enough to help. The food was excellent, and you cannot get a better location for the centre of old krakow and wawel castle. Anyone coming to krakow this hotel is a MUST."

"We are US expats living in Moscow, so we know what soviet service and style is like. The service here was good, responsive, and unobtrusive; the environment elegant but relaxed. Nonetheless, the Copernicus missed a few obvious things which would elevate it to the level we normally expect from Relais and Chateaux. They range from little touches such as no complimentary bottled water, leaving dirty towels in the bathtub with turn-down service and not lighting the beautiful candles in the lobby each night, to some significant things such as no shower and no comfortable furniture to sit on in the suite. Same comment about furniture goes for the lobby, where there was a lovely atmosphere in the evening with soft, live piano music, but no comfortable place to sit. While the pool and sauna area were definitely unique, even romantic, there was no place to sit or relax. And the fitness area was minimal at best – no Precor elliptical trainer, which one expects at this level of hotel. Nonetheless, we loved the free internet access in the room, beautiful dark chocolate truffles and fruit plate upon arrival, and the creative interior design of the hotel. We poked into a number of other hotels in Krakow and would certainly rank the Copernicus at the top."

"We have just returned from the most wonderful stay at the stylish Copernicus Hotel. All staff were efficient, courteous and friendly. Swimming pool area - true escapism. Apartment - spacious and luxurious (including heated floor in marble bathroom). Without a doubt the best hotel in Krakow - I would recommend it to all visitors to Krakow, budget allowing. "

"Having checked out all of Krakow's top hotels I can say with authority that this is the best. So many reviews of the city hedge their bets and simply praise all hotels without ranking them. The all-round package here is superb - rooms, ambience, food, service, pool, location. There are (minor) faults but it's the best in this town."

"This hotel is to die for! Eva from U.S. must be reviewing the wrong hotel. I spent 5 nights in a suite with my husband and we had the most relaxing time. The food was beautiful and the service impeccable. The staff were friendly and extremely efficient. The decor was so tasteful. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel."

"In my dreams I would be living in this greatest of all hotels, in this beautiful city. Everything was superb! The service, the personnel, AND THE FOOD WAS JUST TO DIE FOR !!! I loved my beautiful elegant room, but I especially loved the swimming pool in the cavelike setting. It was the most therapeutic and heavenly experience -- the lighting, the water, the sounds! Thank you folks at Hotel Copernicus for one of the highlights of my life Sincerely, Barbara"

"I'm very suprised that the last reviewer found the service less than top-notch. I have stayed at the Hotel Copernicus several times, and found nothing but professional and genuinely friendly service. I highly recommend this hotel and have no intention of staying anywhere else when I'm in Cracow!"

"The best place to stay in Kracow - I have been in lots of hotels around Europe, and this is certainly in my top 5! Great service, the rooms are immaculate, and the food is also very good. And the prices for such an excellent hotel are really very resonable. Don't wait - go there!"

"I have nothing but praise for this exceptional hotel. It's position close to the castle in a beautifully restored quiet street, within walking distance of the main sites of interest could not be bettered. Everything is immaculate, the small restaurant is first class, and everyone speaks excellent English! I booked on the internet and this service was excellent too. I will definitely return. "Recently come back (Feb 05). Beautiful room and location. Quiet street but close to the old town. Fine food, friendly and helpful restaurant staff and chambermaids (who spoke enough English to be understood). Pool and rooftop bar was closed when we visited unfortunately. Just a shower in our deluxe room (no bath) but the shower was v good - bathroom luxurious with marble and stone. L'Occitaine shampoo, shower gels etc which went down well with my partner. A luxurious experience, although the room could have been a little warmer (we never did work out whether the heating worked or not!). Bathroom on a separate thermostat with underfloor heating - lovely! Krakow bitterly cold in February (vodka very handy!) but it was covered in snow and looks great. We'll definitely go back and visit again (maybe in a different season) and would definitely book into the Copernicus again (and we'd definitely use this website and Sebastian to do it!)"

"This is a fabulous hotel in a beautiful street in the best part of the Old Town. What more can you want? The service was impeccable, the room quite glorious and the hotel manager charming. The roof terrace is a wonderful place to sit, relax and enjoy the views across the city. I'll also remember my swimming costume next time!"

"I have traveled extensively around the world and have stayed in some very fine hotels, but I can honestly say that the Copernicus is probably the nicest, most well run hotel that it has been my pleasure to experience. Many 5 star hotels have a contrived "plushness" and fastidius service, but the Copernicus manages to be graceful, efficient and attentive in a very subdued and dignified way. The staff here are absolutely superb and the mangement is to be commended for obviously putting the highest priority on good staffing. They were helpful, friendly and really are what made the stay a pleasure. Changing rooms, no problem. Upgrades, no problem. Arranging an excellent driver for our tours of Auschwitz and Wielska Salt Mines, no problem. Great advice and friendly chat from the porters and barmen who seemed genuinely interested in visitors and proud of their beautiful city. In addition to the high levels of service, the premises themselves are stunning. The renovation of this important mediaval building were done with sympathy, historical accuracy and style. The rooms are unique, comfortable and huge, with incredible style. To top it all off, the restaurant is fantastic, probably the best in Krakow, with an excellent wine list. Cost wise, the Copernicus was excellent value and very reasonable by European standards. The Copernicus is a must if you are visiting Krakow, in my opinion, the only place to stay."

"Exciting arrival at Ulica Kanonicza - second visit to Krakow for me, different recollections - glorious city of caverns and cellars. Men and women in reception and waiters all in smart black Startrek suits - began to notice that they were standing up in reception every time I came into the room but extremely friendly unlike my experiences as a judge when standing up was all part of a ritual before kick off.  These people smiled in a nonchalant way which made you feel that they really liked you and were standing up for those reasons - all staff seemed to enjoy being nice. Contrast the awkward squad in the hotels and restaurants in Prague. Smoking fire on ground floor very homely - generous Germanic breakfast - eat as much as you can - Austrian Brotchen in short supply but plenty of black bread fish and cereal. Good juices bacon and egg and unobtrusive service. Nothing was too much trouble in the Copernicus - the marble bathrooms and heated floors with silver piping must have all been put in at huge expense. This is a nice hotel in a prestige street.  It is not too big and so is likely to have a great future without having to depend too much on bargain breaks."

"Having stayed in hotels in many countries I have to say this is one of the best.Perfect location for exploring the city, stunning views, staff that were friendly, helpful and had a sense of humour, huge really comfortable beds (I'm 6ft 4in).The pool is an experiece in iitself. Breakfast was ample,Dinner superb even if the wine is a bit expensive. A bit more expensive than some but well worth it. "

"Fancy hotels can sometimes be rather obvious - high on looks and low on charm. A suite in the Copernicus is very reasonable by western standards, and in terms of character unique. Our rooms were frankly magical, how often do you find medieval frescos curling above your bed? It felt like we were in a suite in Wawel Castle itself. And the service was excellent. The roof-top bar is also wonderful - all in all a highly memorable stay. The suite would not disappoint honeymooners. "
