Krakow Events

Cracovians often liken their city to a big village, and in many respects this is true. However, although the scale and character of Cracow are intimate, culturally, there seems to be more going on here than in many other bigger European cities. Perhaps this isn't surprising given Cracow's long-standing reputation as the country's cultural capital. It certainly is rich in the arts, with more museums and music venues than you could possibly hope to visit on a short trip. Whilst the sheer variety may seem a little overwhelming to the outsider, we hope that our events calendar gets you off on the right foot.

events on today

To begin with, Cracow plays host to an array of festivals throughout the year, including film, classical music and photography, as well as the internationally famous Festival of Jewish Culture. There are plenty of treats in store then, not forgetting numerous one-off events, from retrospectives of great artists to Klezmer concerts through to evenings of experimental drum and bass in old medieval cellars - there's certainly something to suit all tastes.

Cracow is riddled with marvelous old cellars, and in recent years they have enjoyed something of a renaissance, playing host to exhibitions, jazz concerts and experimental drama. More often than not these places double up as bars and cafes, offering a quintessentially Cracovian experience that's not be missed. To kick things off, we have opened a calendar that focuses on one-off cultural events. These include concerts and theatre plays as well as pickings from the weird and wonderful world of Cracow's nightlife (only of the savoury variety of course...!)

Also worth bearing in mind are exhibitions. Although the openings of exhibitions can be found in the events calendar, we will also be highlighting long-running events here on the Events homepage. Cracow sees some of the best exhibitions in the country, and the city can draw some marvelous surprises from the vast resources of the National Museum, not to mention the collections of the Royal Castle at Wawel. There is always something that's worth catching in town, be it a small photography exhibition in a cafe or a grand museum retrospective of a legendary artist.

I am leading a party of 9 adults to Krakow from 7 - 11 March staying at the Chopin Hotel. I have tried various websites to see what is on at the theatres during this time with no success. We would particularly like to go to an opera if there is one - any suggestions for this or other must see places other than the obvious. Also economical good food places???
Thanks

Had a 3 day break June 08. Krakow is a beautiful city with something for everyone and so easy to navigate. Military marching bands was brilliant and Auschwitz very sobering. The only minor downside were the shameful british lager louts on the friday evening using delightful language outside our hotel which was quite near the main square. So opting for one in the jewish district next time i visit.

reviewed by chris from United Kingdom on Sep.11.2010

I'm off to Cracow with my friends on a stag party. Hopefully we won't get branded lager louts even though I think my friends plan to dress me up as H1tler? I'm hoping for a city of culture and sightseeing. They just want to get drunk and shave off my eyebrow.:-(

Check out Loch Ness at lochness.pl or Klub Studio at klubstudio.pl . Both those have fairly big name acts - not just heavy metal though. You could also try the gig page on lastfm. I think there may be a metal bar on ul. Grodzka too, Tower Pub, I think No.4.

Hi.

I'm in Krakow for a few weeks soon, can anyone tell me if there are any heavy metal bars/clubs/concerts.

In metal we trust !...!

Hey Ari of New Zealand
I think what the girl from England is trying to say (if you note the corrections...
Is that in her opinion (no double p), is that her grammar (not grammer) and punctuation is vastly (not vastley) superior TO other colonists'.

She's very ironic, but really did make me laugh.

reviewed by Inferior from the commonwealth from Canada on Jun.09.2009

wondering why "night of the museums" event is listed on may 15th here, but on the official site it says may 16th??

reviewed by andzia from United States on May.11.2009

May I point out to Ari of New Zealand that we in Great Britain may, in her oppinion, be 'moaning poms' but our grammer and punctutation is clearly still vastley superior from others colonists in the empire.

reviewed by from United Kingdom on Apr.30.2009

all good loved it.. apart from the moanin poms.. but they,re everywhere..

Love Kazimerz flea market. would be nice if more poles doveloped a SOH though. After the march for tolerance Im glad to be a liberal lout.

Imagine - Good Friday, main square, Poles and others watching a religious service on a large screen in the Square. The English? Fighting drunkenly in one corner. Makes a man proud to share a country with these girlie-men.

reviewed by Richard Ian Crawford from United States on Jul.03.2008

Instead of concentrating on the downfalls of those English who let themselves down and us as fellow countrypeople please can we just concentrate on highlighting the positive points of Krakow for people like me who are looking forward to going and have never been before. We are not all uncultured disrespectful yobs and I dont think it does us any good relating to them in any way...

reviewed by Val Kerry from United Kingdom on Mar.20.2008

got to agree we really have an awful reputation abroad. It is embarrassing to be associated with the country

reviewed by Chris from United Kingdom on Nov.23.2007

We have been trying for sveral months to find a list of cultural events in December - concerts, opera, folk music/dance, ballet, theatre but we have found nothing helpful. This is really disappointing. Perhaps you only cater for awful British lager-louts!!!

reviewed by from United Kingdom on Nov.02.2007

Will travellers please keep their reviews respectable - everyone does not want to view a website with comments from people who use "gutter language".
Krakow is still beautiful - Do not make it tacky and cheap. All you people with foulmouths - Have you heard of Blackpool?
