It was built to be the ideal of a Soviet workers’ city – functional and productive. But those Poles who inhabited Nowa Huta often had somewhat different ideas, which frequently led to clashes with authorities. This exhibition attempts to answer some of the questions often asked about what is now a district of Krakow proper. Who built it and why? Was it truly a socialist city? What is outstanding about its architecture and town planning? Find out the answers, and see something of everyday life in times gone by, at this branch of Krakow City Museum.
