Cyrano de Bergerac

Descend the stairs and savour one of Cracow's premier gastronomic experiences. Cracow is a city of cellars, but few can match the magic of Monsieur Cyrano. The Polish owner spent many years in France, and she has created a wonderful marriage of Old Polish style and French epicurean panache. Decked out with charismatic antique furnishings, Cyrano is a favourite with actors, art dealers and old Cracow hands. Distinguished guests have included Roman Polanski and Prince Charles. The food was excellent. Really chateaubriand from a french cuisine.
Service wasn't kind at all. Their faces speak for themselves.

Really enjoyed our meal there last Thursday. A bit on the expensive side but then you have to pay for quality.

Can only be described as the best meal I had in Krakow - the French Onion soup was superb as was the Steak and Chateaubriand - and all well presented. Did not feel rushed - everything was well paced, just the place to go to relax and enjoy the atmosphere and the food - best to book in advance.

Excellent food and very fine ambient. It was the 3rd time to have the famous chateaubriand, frog legs and creme brule.

Great place, great food, good service, only the waiter was not too experienced, apart from that, good food, not too expensive (for foreign standards), for Polish standards however, quite expensive, but certainly a must to try!

Brilliant food, indiviually cooked to order, so not fast food, by any means. Lunch is great value and the service is impeccable. We have been twice before and recommend it. Wine by the glass is good and well priced. The price of bottles cause the eyes to water, as we found we had odered a £75 one! It was good, though.....!

Cyranos is living on a past reputation. I thought the menu was unimaginative, expensive and the service was poor. Only french wines are available which pushes you into a wine which you might not want. Very dissapointed. Ancora restaurant however was fantastic. The service was the best we have found for many years. The food was imaginative and the prices were fair compared to Cyranos.

Great surroundings and service. Two courses with wine for two was 400 zloty (£72)which is good if you consider that in the same class of restaurant in the UK you could easily pay that much for the wine alone! The only complaint I had was that we selected our dessert course only to be told it wasn't available because they had run out of raspberries. I could understand this if we were dining late but this was at 8.30pm. Would have scored 5/5 if not for this problem.

The onion soup is good value !

Absolutely beautiful restaurant with amazing food and terrific service. By UK standards it was very reasonably priced but watch the wine consumption - 'house' is good. Would definitely go there again!

Went here based on the reviews of the food and prepared ourselves for poor service. However both the food and the service were excellent, the duck with caramelised peach was fabulous. However beware the wine prices. We had a bottle of wine in the piano bar before dinner and another bottle with dinner (there were four of us). The same wine cost 135 zloty's in the piano bar and 195 zloty's in the restaurant. Despite the fact we had finished the wine in the piano bar we were charged 195 Zloty's on the bill. They did in fairness reduce it by 60 Zloty's when we pointed this out.

this restaurant is without doubt excellent-i was also sat in the garden area. i started with boletus and chantarelles in cream & marsala sauce followed with foie gras of duck in a blackcurrant dressing-the duck being a first for me but the whole meal and service from the staff was very impressive-if you get the chance please check out this fine restaurant.

I FIRST VISITED CYRANO'S IN OCTOBER 2004 AND WAS DELIGHTED TO FIND A RESTAURANT WITH A DEGREE OF OLD WORLD CHARM AND A CLASSIC FRENCH STYLE OF FOOD.WHILST THE SERVICE WAS NOT THE QUICKEST,I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED MY FIVE COURSE MEAL,ESPECIALLY THE ASTRAKHAN CAVIAR,FISH SOUP AND A MARVELLOUS RACK OF LAMB,WASHED DOWN WITH SOME EXCELLENT WINES(ICED VODKA WITH THE CAVIAR).HAVING SPOKEN TO AN ENGLISH COUPLE AT THE NEXT TABLE,WE ALL DECIDED THAT IT WAS SOME OF THE BEST EATING TO BE HAD IN CRACOW.I THEN RETIRED UPSTAIRS TO LE FUMOIR,THEIR CIGAR BAR,A DELIGHTULLY ART-DECO INSPIRED LITTLE BAR WITH ORIGINAL FURNISHINGS OF THE PERIOD AND A GREAT LIST OF COGNACS AND ARMAGNACS,MATCHED BY AN EXTENSIVE CIGAR LIST.THE SERVICE WAS PROMPT AND I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO SPEAK TO THE OWNER(MADAME NOVAK-RIVIERE)AND HER DAUGHTER ANNA,WHO PROVIDED EXCEPTIONAL HOSPITALITY.WHEN I RETURNED TO CRACOW IN 2005 THIS WAS ONE OF THE FIRST BARS I SOUGHT OUT ON MY FIRST EVENING.I HAVE RECOMMENDED CYRANO'S AND LE FUMOIR TO SEVERAL FRIENDS WHO HAVE BEEN TO CRACOW,AND NONE OF THEM HAS BEN DISAPPOINTED.

Having read that this is one of the finest restaurants in Krakow, we had to experience it for ourselves. You soon realise why it’s won awards over the years. Great care has been taken in the surroundings which are elegant, classy and which have a high degree of finesse.
The menu is varied and we were spoilt for choice. Having settled for the Onion soup, and on recommendation of the deer with cranberry sauce we were certainly not disappointed.
With Cyrano de Bergerac you have to work on the principle that you get what you pay for. Although is it not one of the cheapest restaurants in town, by far, you do get what you pay for which is quality food and good service. I would have liked to have seen a segregated non smoking area, but this is very uncommon in Poland generally.
The wine list is almost exclusively French, but I’m sure those who prefer wines from other regions will find something to their liking.
It’s certainly a place to visit.

the food was actually very good but i cannot say the same about the service.

to wit:as a starter i had the gascogne soup-excellent

my wife had the zander as an entree which she liked and thought was quite good except that the spinach upon which it was bedded was not sufficiently cleaned and had that unfortunate grit.

i had the chateaubriand. the beef was very good and properly prepared to order(medium rare) and the quality was as good as american beef. (yes we are americans from texas and i know beef. i've also been to over 50 countries and know that beef is often low quality despite the price. further we are foodies, and i have been professionally trained in cooking both in usa and europe. so this is my hopefully educated opinion.)

all was well until two french women were seated at the table behind us. at that time a man in dressed in black (presumably the owner or manager, not johnny cash) came out and devoted much attention to them. from that time on we recieved NO SERVICE. the other tables seemed not to suffer.

no big deal. if i had a persecution complex i'd say they did not like american patrons.

all said we sat patiently and continued to recieve NO SERVICE.

after about 15 minutes it was becoming tiresome- no offer of a dessert menu etc.
even worse the two french women who were receiving very good service decided to light up two of the longest cigarettes i've ever seen, stinking up the place which has no apparent ventilation.

as a former smoker i am not anti-smoking and actually defend smokers to a certain degree however i prefer the taste of food to someone elses smoke and bad breath.

when we made reservations it could have been our oversight to request no smoking if they even have it. the french women appeared to be the only smokers in the room and of course their needs superceded that of other diners.

after 5-10 minutes of continued NO SERVICE i requested the check and told the waiter we were leaving because we were recieving NO SERVIce. when he brought the check we left NO TIP!

all good service we recieved was negated by the NO SERVICE we recieved in our final 20-30 minutes. it would have been longer if i had not flagged a waiter.

the atmosphere was good, the food was very good, but the NO SERVICE we recieved is something for those considering dining here to be wary of. if you are not french or do not smoke you might receive NO SERVICE. NO SERVICE ruins a fine dining experience.

we went elsewhere and had the dessert, coffee and drinks that the restaurant apparently was not interested in offering us.

BEWARE of this NO SERVICE possibility

Excellent food and service. The blinis with beef were brilliant and the steak with mushrooms, as good as it gets. On the wine front the Gigondas was outstanding, one of the best bottles I've had and worth every zloty.

Having eaten at traditional Polish restaurants for two nights in a row, we decided to try Cyrano's on our last evening in Krakow. I have to say that we weren't a bit disappointed - the food was outstanding and we would recommend this restaurant to anybody!
