Restaurant Jarema

A certain countess is apt to say that if you want to see the true Poland you must leave Poland behind. How does that make sense one might wonder? East my dear boy! East to the lost borderlands of the Serene Noble Republic - east to the cities of Vilnius and Lvov, the rolling steppes of Podolia, the mighty River Niemen...
It would certainly make for a fine journey, but if time is cruel, you can still come to Jarema to sample the spirit of 'Kresy' - the borderlands. White borsch, Lithuanian lamb chops followed by Nougat in the Lvov style, not to mention their famous pierogi - it's all rather mouthwatering. Served up in a manorial atmosphere, with soulful music groups adding that crucial dose of sweet melancholia, Jarema is worth a try. |

Forget about the Oscars, these are the awards that count in Krakow, year on year.

Years ago this was a good restaurant. It was pricey 3 years ago; outrageous this year, considering the number of fairly priced quality restaurants in Krakow. One big disappointment was the small serving sizes for soup, entrees, side orders, desserts, The food that was supposed to be hot was lukewarm. The dessert we had was wafers with a choc sauce. We found the wafers in a box in a grocery store - not exactly a gourmet offering. The duo playing music had no theme. It was not classical, not jazz, not kitchy, not Polish music. It was a hodgepodge of tunes, and too loud. The waitress gave an "air" of how this is a gourmet restaurant, so the portions are small; so, we should order more sides, etc. It definitely was not gourmet; and not a pleasant atmosphers. It should be a no-show for visitors to Krakow.
