Nostalgia website

Cheerful and inexpensive Polish home cooking from this new addition, just outside the Planty. Open from 12 am to 11 pm daily, Nostalgia is a good place to drop by if you're looking for good home cooking, but want to avoid the steeper prices of the Old Town centre. Nostalgia serves up vegetarian and fish courses in addition to the normal Polish fare, and there are also a good range of salads to choose from. As you'd expect, there's a wide choice of alcoholic beverages to wash it all down, and a courtyard garden if you wish to sit outside.

I loved it. The garden was lovely and the borscht with meat dumplings superb.

A really great restaurant with incredible food. Try the pork loin with chanterelle sauce or the veal in basil and apple - you won't be disappointed. Surroundings are simple and rustic and service is well-paced and efficient. We ate here twice during our week in Krakow and were wowed both times. This place is an absolute must. Oh - and the music during our visits was neither loud nor irritating. Maybe some of the earlier comments have borne fruit? Seriously though, give Nostalgia a try. We loved it.

A wonderful place. Relaxed and informal, friendly staff. The food is just fantastic. Wide choice on offer at incredibly low prices. The dumpling stuffed with veal made a grat starter, the duck with plum and ginger sauce was to die for, had with seasonable veg and pan fried Russian dumplings. Easy place to miss as the restraunt is set back off the main road in a beautiful courtyard. Make the effort and visit. You will not be disapointed.

Took a group of 10 here on 13 Jan after reading reviews on this site. Was not disappointed as we had an excellent meal and evening so I can wholeheartedly recommend Nostalgia. As stated warm cozy atmosphere in the upstairs room. Locals eating in added to the ambiance. No music mentioned in a previous review and service was smooth and efficent with the capable Asher (sic - apologies to the Poles for the spelling!) graceful and pleasant. Portions are very generous. Dumplings excellent (fried Russian were favourites), half Duck enormous, and both pork loin and beef steak dishes highly recommended. Extremely good value too as others have stated. You will be pleased you selected Nostalgia. Enjoy!

We visited nostalgia for New Years dinner. The food is delicious and yet very reasonably priced. The beef tenderloin on wild mushrooms sauce and veal with apples was really good. The athmosphere was very cozy. The service was very professional, however, it was a bit too slow, probably because the reasturant was packed.

I visited Nostalgia the other night with a friend after having it recommended to us. It was extremely good! Excellent professional service from a waitress who was timed perfectly, not intrusive, but also very friendly and polite! The food was very well done and portions were very good in size! The deserts were superb as well! Found it very hard to fault this place to be honest! Definitely a great restaurant to head for in Krakow! I'll be back!

What I like about Nostalgia, which I visited over the last two years several times, is the quality of food being served there: the dishes taste good AND natural, without the adition of easy flavour-enhancers (be they natural or artificial, this is not the problem), which a more trained palate can easily detect. This is a definite advantage, making the taste natural and subtle, which makes me come back each time with expectations never disappointed. A little criticism though: musical choice, as noted in other posts, is indeed rather irritating...

My favourite restaurant in Krakow. I lived there for 6 months when I was still a student, and I visited Nostalgia at least 10 times during that time. Going back to Krakow this Christmas and booked a table at Nostalgia for a wonderful Christmas meal. Nostalgia never disappoints!

After reading the reviews on this site, my husband and I decided to give Nostalgia a try as it seemed like a good, mid-range option. We dined there on a Tuesday night, and the restaurant was quite animated, mostly full of Polish patrons. I liked the decor which was sort of rustic and elegant at the same time. We asked to be seated in the non-smoking area which was considerably less busy than the smoking sections of the restaurant but still nice. As warned by another reviewer below, they played really terrible Polish pop music which didn’t suit the ambiance at all and grated on my nerves. The food was good, similar to what we were served at cheaper Polish restaurants like Polakowski, only more refined but not necessarily that much better. The meat dishes don’t come with vegetables or starches so everything has to be ordered separately, which is fine since the prices are reasonable. Along with our mains, we shared a plate of pierogis and vegetables and it was more than enough. The service was really slow, we must have waited about 40 minutes between first and second course and there was no apology or explanation from the waiter. With the horrible music the evening seemed to drag a bit. All and all it was an ok experience that could have been good.

This restaurant came highly recommended and it didnt disappoint, food and wine were excellent and the staff were very welcoming. The inside surroundings were very cosy and the log fire blazing away was very much needed as it was snowing on our visit!!

The best restaurant we visited in Krakow. Allthough we had decided to try a new place every day, we just had to come back the next day.
I had the sour rye soup, the best soup I ever tasted! After the soup I had beef with mushroom sauce, which also was excellent.
My friend had pumpkin soup and pork loin with chanterelle sauce, both very good.

Reasonably good food but nowhere near the best we had in Krakow - and not quite worth all the hype written here. Service OK - pleasant people. Crap choice of background music - continuous western pop stuff.

Of our four meals out in Krakow we liked Nostalgia the least. The starters were good, as was one of the main courses but the 'Hunters Stew' was very dissapointing. Service was too fast, main course arrived before we had finished the starters and was just left on the table, giving the conveyor belt impression. Little interest was shown in weather we enjoyed our meal or not. Perhaps I expected too much, given some of the rave reviews but I left feeling a wee bit dissapointed.

It's good in the summer with the courtyard open. EXCELLENT pierogi, but not cheap - you'll pay around 15 - 20 zloty for a plate of pierogi.

Once again yet more excellent meals. In the hot weather, it's wonderfull to be able to sit outside in the courtyard.

Fantastic restaurant. The steak was to die for!! Varied wine list with very reasonable prices. Can't wait to return.

By some way the best meal we ate in Poland, never mind Krakow. Excellent varied wine list, not greedily priced. First class duck with spiced apples: nicely presented starters. Reasonable prices. Recommended but best to book.

Why is it that whenever a restaurant becomes popular the prices go up and the service gets worse... not the gem it used to be

You MUST try this restaurant.Lovely food and cheap compared to the restaurants in the Market Square. My rasberry pudding that sounded a bit strange in English on the menu was fabulous.

We visited this restaurant on 4 occasions as a result of reading the reviews on this website. The food was consistently good, service affable and the ambience is welcoming. We were pleased to note that the majority of the clientele appeared to locals. We can recommend the pork knuckle, sauerkraut. For dessert, the apple pie or cherry tart are very tasty.

We went following the reviews we read on this site and likewise had a fabulous meal (though it was easy to miss the entrance...but we found this a few times in Krakow!) Excellent service and good value. Mixed dumplings were delicious, salads good and the pork knuckle was 'to die for'!! They advised really well for our three year old daughter and made up a dish to suit her tastes. Very cosy and warm which given the snow and outside temp. was much appreciated. Don't miss it.

Lovely restaurant, good service, perfect place for U.S. visitor, chicken in cranberry sauce is sublime, reasonable prices. Excellent tiramisu for dessert.

Excellent food, especially for the reasonable prices. Not nouvelle cuisine like some of the more expensive Polish restaurants in the town centre -- portion sizes vary from medium to large. The interior is clean and cosy, candlelit in the evening. The English translations on the menu are 100% comprehensible (which is unusual!), and the staff speak English but don't force it on you if you're trying your Polish. The service was great until the end of the main course when we were forgotten about :(

I remeber the nice evening last summer, when I celebrated my birthday in this lovely place. The music was very romantic, the wine very tasty and the atmosphere brilliant.
Thanks for that night, that I will remember forever.

Actually a decent place to eat - feels like it is off the tourist route, and all the better for it. Not expensive, and the food is good.
