Indus Tandoor

Indian restaurants are rather thin on the ground in Cracow so we're very happy that Indus is flying the flag. Here you can find all the traditional favourites that you'd expect from an Indian owned restaurant, and all cooked up in an authentic tandoori oven. Indus has drawn a host of loyal fans, not least because of its very cheap business lunch. For 12 zlotys you can feast on dal, chicken curry and a basket of nan bread. Not bad for central Cracow.

The service can be quite good or quite bad depending on the waitress. The food is average to very good. The Chef seems to know how to cook plates with sauce but the other plates are quite disappointing. If you are living in the UK, don't wait for the same Indian cuisine quality.

Been here once during my visit and was bitterly disappointed with what I recieved. Me and a friend dined here and ordered a Madras and Chicken Tikka Masala respectively. I had asked for my Madras to be extra hot as I am a lover of spicy food but when it arrived it was just bland and tomato-y. As for the Masala, even though a much milder curry there was again no flavour, just creamy. The staff weren't entirely helpful either and seemed uninterested. Would honestly avoid and would probably be better off making your own curry at home.

Taste is good but ambience could be better. Table clothes and seating was not comfortable and not looking good.

The Restaurant is great and the staff is great. Recommend this place for everyone who want to taste indian foods.

I discovered Indus when I was extremely hungry and was searching for an Indian restaurant.It was a blessing.The food is awesome with the Desi- Tadka. I will strongly suggest it to those who want to give a treat to there pallettes

i was there in last weekend and am glad that i visit there food was good and service was superb there was two indian boys and they were realy soo friendly ..its worth to visit there perfect atmosphere u'll feel great with perfect service and food ...

if you're really need an indian fix, this place will do the trick; but if you can hold off and wait to eat at your favorite indian place back home, then you should wait. we had four different dishes, all of which were indistinguishable from one another. we didn't experience the terrible services that so many other commented on, but it wasn't fantastic either. since you're in krakow, skip this place and eat at one of the many incredible polish restaurants.

We went here in october last year. We like curry's and this place didnt dissapoint. A nice night to finish a good city break. Good value and nice and spicy if you like it like that

Horible service, waitress very very rude. We were waitnig for our meal more than 20 minutes and it was tasteles. I cant understand how this restaurant got such good reviews from people. Hughe mistake. Really wastw of time. Never again.

Indian cuisine at its worst, missed all the exotic herbs and spices. Seems hastily cooked, bad service, and terrible music!

it's fantastic restaurant I often eat there when I visit Cracow and everything is OK. The staff is very kind and food is delicious.

2 days ago i was there location is perfect and interior was great but i shocked with dishes we took lamb vindaloo and it was totally with'ut taste i'll never recomend to anybody and swear i'll never be there .....

Went here at the weekend, very busy waitress running around like a headless chicken, threw menus onto the table and disappeared. The table had not been cleaned off from the last customer crumbs still on the table cloth, 20 minutes later someone came to take our order ten minutes later drinks arrived, a further 10 minutes and the starters arrived very tasty chicken samosa's 5 minutes after finishing them the main course arrived prawn korma fantastic good coconut taste chicken Korma very poor. usually happy if the food in a restaurant compensates for the service or vice versa but not here very much below average.

Food fairly decent. I have had better, but the portions were pretty huge as the other readers have said. Tried the bottled beer as suggested, but it tiny (and not cheap either) !

Very good indeed. Madras with salad raita excellent. Also a decent portion of rice, which is often lacking in similar restaurants. Would be even better if they offered Cobra beer. They only have an Indian beer called Yogi which I haven't come across before and tasted like washing up liquid. Their draft beer is to be avoided. Not sure when they last cleaned out the pipes!

I generally like this restaurant. The spicing is comparable to other restaurants of its type in such places as the States. You can get *very hot*, but you do have to ask. There is only one caveat I have, namely: NEVER order the business lunch special. Only a la carte. The reviewers who talked about freshness issues almost certainly had ordered one of those specials. The a la carte food is always fresh and absolutely worthy of recommendation as one of Krakow's 'must visit' restaurants.

am not agree with last review about service bcoz we went there 2 last week ago and service was really good waiters were friendly and helping with so jolly nature....to take a good service u also have to behave with manners and atticates..i'll hardly recomend to evry my friend and wellknown to this place .....

I went in here after reading the reviews on here, thinking to myself...how bad can the service be?

Well we waited 10 minutes to be brought a menu, another 15 minutes to take our order, 10 minutes after our drinks arrived, before our food started arriving intermittently; starters quite soon after drinks (and they were excellent starters, very big and tasty).

Then 1 main course arrived with a poppadom, followed by the naan and my main course. A few minutes later my partners rice arrived yet I was still awaiting my rice and naan.

I had to ask 2 people for it and it eventually came, and 10 minutes later our second round of drinks arrived (15 minutes after ordering).

The food was EXCELLENT and I would most definitely recommend it, it just leaves a sour taste in your mouth after the terribly poor service.

The price was OK aswell.


Food is definitely the high end of the scale, where as the service is off the scale (at the wrong end). 2.5/5

This place has been very up and down over the years. At the moment it is actually quite good. The portions are enormous, and the Chicken Madras pretty tasty. Service is still poor, but overall worth visiting.

i'll tell you what, the service is pretty lame BUT the thaly lunch menu may just be the only bargain to be had in the old town. the food is fine, not fine dining but tasty and filling. something that is distinctly lacking here in my opinion. forget the snobby previous reviews and give it a go. for 5 quid a go it's a low risk option.

i went there for a curry , i sat down and after 15 minutes without any service i decided to leave.. on my way out i had a look at the kitchen.. my god. glad i left.

We stayed in Kracow for four nights and as on holiday like to find a good curry house. The place is small and narrow but nice inside with pleasant staff. Although the menue is limited the meals are good and packed with a true taste. We ate here twice and i can recommend the madras/vindaloo...a warning though, no mango chutney with the papadoms...overall though very good.

....i visited with my friends in this restaurant this sunday on 10 may...i have to say that superrrrb really most delicious food i have ever tasted..staff was really soo friendly espacially that indian guy who served us

i visit this resturant last week i have to say that soo bad service really ..i herad about this resturant from my indian friend but i really regrect that why i came here and waste my money for this stupid food ....i swear i'll never go there and never sugeest to anybody also

i just wana say to the owner of this resturent that ur food is superb and delicious but ur service is soo slow and specialy that girl waterres is soo rude and mannerless......

The worst food you can have outside India
Not fresh at all. Maybe 2 or 3 days old.
Its giving wrong impression about indian food.Better to go to KFC and eat the lovely chicken Much better

Possibly the Best Curry I've ever had, definatly the best curry outside of England, service ok. Not sure why so many poor reviews but I would go back.

I had Chicken Tikka Masala (medium) which was a bit hotter than a Madras but very very nice - highly recommended!!!

I am a regular customer for meny years. One of my favourite restaurant in Cracow. Food is very good and inexpensive.

Hopeless service and poor food.

First thing the waitress tells us is that there are no more meat dishes left. We order some vegetarian and fish dishes and ask for them to be medium/hot.

More people arrive who all of a sudden seem to be able to order lamb and chicken dishes.... which is just rude.

When our food arrives, all three dishes are the mildest curry you ever tasted. There's just no curry in the curry.

Waitress is grumpy, for Poland the prices are on the expensive side. A no goer that I would not recommend to anybody.

Poor quality and the service was painfully slow. Food not fresh, probably cooked serveral days in advance and recycled several times.
Any restuarant that can't be bothered to even change the dirty table cloths between sittings simply cannot have good hygine practises in the kitchen.
Cant comment on whether this level poor service is just this restuarant or indicative of Polands establishments in general, as Indus was our first meal in Krakow. Not looking forward to more meals here....anyone tell me where the nearest McDonalds is??

I went to this restaurant yesterday... I looked at the reviews about this place, i don't think the blonde waitress really wants to be there, and is rude, meal was an average curry... not curry club on a thursday night at a wetherspoons though (£4.99 + drink) :)

Food wasnt too bad and not too badly priced. Madras was quite hot.

I am a very regular customer for many years and the waitress never ever smiles at me. but if I go with anyone then she always smiles at the other person..its strange. but the food is fine and the location is great. She isn't nasty just not very happy...leaving generous tips doesn't help either. maybe she has a bad home life or something... Don't sack her please. Maybe someone should start a Facebook club for her, called Fawlty Curry or something

The blond waitress at this place should be looking for another job! She was rude and not serviceminded at all. Food was good and inexpensive.

Ate here last Tuesday. Really not bad at all. The set menus are decent value (you get a sort of metal tray with a number of dishes) with the rice particularly tasty. The waitress is not too friendly but there is a young Indian waiter who is very pleasant and seems to do most of the work these days. OK

The restaurant was empty except for one man sitting at the back. An empty resstaurant is never a good sign. We were amused to have the menues literally slapped down on the table as we had read the previous reviews about the delightful waitress. Everything we ordered was off the menu as the delivery of chicken had not arrived - the lamb was also strangely not available. We left!!!

I think as long as you realise that the waitress here doesn't just hate you but each and every diner you'll enjoy it. Happy to see most other people found the same thing - how does she keep a job?!

I came here for the first time after 2 weeks of solid polish food, which I do love, but the chicken madras tasted fantastic - very nice and spicy. Agree with other reviewer though, poppadoms were a tad off. Liked the samosas though!

The waiteress was not an Indian and her sari was terribly worn.
Me and my wife between us could not make her smile even ONCE.
It was not really busy but she was working alone.
The food was ok but it badly lacked a SMILE.
Will not go again and I'm Indian from UK

I've eaten at Indus several times and each time the food was excellent. I also find the prices very reasonable too. The service is good but better with a smile, however it's never stopped me from going back. I'm going again this week! Definately one of my favourite restaurants in Krakow.

I went to this restaurant since its opening at least twice a week or more often - for more than half a year. The cook is from Colaba, Mumbai and knows how to prepare his dishes. The service I got was excellent, the food I got was excellent and if you want to have a chat about real things in Indian life you have to drop in there (Indian TV included). Ask and negotiate about party service, you won't be disappointed. One review stated a bad quality: the author might know Indian cuisine but should keep in mind that in Poland different ingredients are available than back home in India. Bigos and Pierogi might tast different in India too. It's the food and the people which makes this place special. A must close to rynek if you are fed up with Babcia Maliny. Try it - rate it.

Myself and freinds went to the Indus in April 05. After sampling The Old Towns finest bars, we all decided a curry was in order and were all looking forward to it . Unfortunately the Indus was a major disappointment ! The Staff were freindly enough but the food was terrible , and this was a unanimous verdict from all 5 of us.
The starters : Popadoms , were out of a packet and were some how curled up and burnt ! These were served with what was meant to be a mint sauce but was a firey hot one and also another sauce which seemed to be a homemade concoction
combing a smokey type barbecue sauce and tomato ketchup and god knows what else -It was disgusting and was not mango chutney !
Samosa's : were piping hot which was good , but were poorly made , thick doughy pastry and sub standard filling.

Main meals - All the curry's (lamb and chicken dishes ) were a type of stewy affair with no fresh ingredients- I believe only packet spices were used and they were poorly chosen. The quality of the meat was also extremely poor (and may even have come out of a can). They also took 2 orders for lamb only to return to say they had run out of lamb!

Sundries : Rice and Naan were perfectly fine.

Service : OK

Overall: I am not sure wether the owners know no better or are new to the restaurant business/ Indian Cuisine but the food simply was not good enough.
Maybe they are getting away with this because alot of clientelle are Curry novices and know no better. But if anyone likes Indian food / Curry I would not recommend the Indus , unless it improves drastically !

Excellent. Try the creamy Butter Lamb - absolutely delicious. Friendly service and good fun atmosphere. Perfect for a rainy Sunday. Already looking forward to our next visit!
