Chlopskie Jadlo

Traditional Polish food from the ever-popular Chlopskie Jadlo can now be found on Cracow's Royal Way between the Rynek (Market Square) and Wawel castle, along Grodzka Street. The highly-successful recipe remains the same - hearty portions of rustic peasant fare in a genuinely traditional setting. Try the golabki (stuffed cabbage leaves) and the potatoes with garlic sauce, and don't forget to book a table in advance, particularly at weekends, as places can be hard to come by. A Cracow winner.

Over salted over priced food. The wooden figure at the entrance behind the hotel says it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought this place was very wacky. Wooden tables and traditional accessories. I had the traditional dumplings with meat which was fab. We all tried the beetroot soup and salad which was all very tasty. Its a pleasant and unusual experience and recommended.

We were disappointed with the food as it was poorly presented and below average taste. The bread was stale. Our waitress was really helpful.

If you want a cheap eat with atmosphere then this is the place. It has a wide selection of Polish food. Before your main meal comes out, you get bread that is served with a small bowl of lard with bacon or cream cheese with chives.
It's worth trying this restaurant out.

We ate at Chlopskie Jadlo for authentic Polish food. The food was average and not inexpensive. The service was the most deplorable of anywhere in Europe. Waiter was rude and we waited 45 minutes after asking for our check. You can do much better anywhere else in Krakow - skip Chlopskie Jadlo.

I expected a bit more from Chlopskie Jadlo, but it seems it used to be better than it is now. The warm beer was still great, but it seems the prices have gone up while the food quality (and service quality) has gone down lately.

Chlopskie Jadlo represents oldies. Nice atmosphere, prices are acceptable but staff need to be trained more for public relations.

Did someone say this chain was cheap. (Branches seem to sprout like weeds after rain.. must be four in Krakow alone. Not to mention the shops. Service aloof, food not bad but not cheap either. To be fair they were honest about presence of meat in some dishes veggy comapanion. Good smoked eel but you pay for it.

I brought a friend to this restaurant It was his first time in Poland.We found the staff were VERY unfriendly, quite off and rude with us even though I try to speak Polish. The food was passable but this is now the second time I have been to one of these restaurants and the staff have been rude. We had a really good meal and much better service in the Milk Bar in ul Grodska and it was half the price! Go there I say!

We booked this restaurant for the New Year celebration evening and were delighted to be there. First of all the location is superb - just a minute away from the Market Square and it looks inside even more beautiful than on their web site. Waiters are very friendly and you don't have to wait. Folk music creates great surrounding for your lunch or dinner. The menu choice is wide and the quality of food is great. We tried different dishes and everything was just tasty. the staff is very friendly. Only one thing - this restaurant offers peasant cuisine so don't await finess etc. This restaurant is about Old Polish cuisine. And i would highly recommend it to anyone.

I don't think the peasant-food trend will take the world by storm any more than bread-beer or entrails have. But in Poland this place does really well. Actually, it's just alright, pricey for Polish fare, very filling and the service is decent, but maybe not worth financing more franchises. I had the sauerkraut soup in a bread bowl, more like watery bigos without much paprika in it. I don't know what I was expecting. Sophistication? ... The lard spread is stinky but full of flavor, and it sticks to your ribs immediately (you can feel it, really, sticking, great after a day of walking around in chilly weather). Add the jam to it to cut the waft of rendered pig. Everything here was very hearty, but low on flavor. Marathon runners and binge pot smokers might find a special place for Chlopskie Jadlo in their heartburns, but if you want hearty Polish food with sophistication, at the same price, go to Pod Baranem instead.

Basing most of my travel around good food and restaurants, i embraced Polish quisine as something of an enigma and looked forward to trying out a few traditional dishes on my first trip to Krakow,naturally we decided to eat here.
I very quickly realised that regardless of how adventurous i have been in the past in many different countries, I really was up against it in not just here but all the restaurants I ate in in Krakow.The lard,being a "must try" had the texture and taste of scraping the cooled fat out of a roasting tray after cooking a chicken, then spreading on bread...disgusting. Sorry, just not my cup of warm beer with jam, another delicacy on offer!!!!!!

Having read all the great reviews, we decided to give this a try. It's a very big restaurant and seems to go on forever. I'm sure it took 5 minutes to walk to our table. You think you are travelling through a maze of underground vaults and we were given one to ourselves (4). Hungarian style music was played more off than on a loop through dodgy speakers and you might be bothered by this. The food is plain but very edible, the service is a bit patchy but very friendly; don't expect haute cuisine. Nevertheless, you can have an inexpensive unusual night out and if you are a young crowd, you may really love the place.
