Cechowa

A quiet, relaxed sort of a place with a rather traditional and elegant setting, Cechowa offers classic Polish specialities such as Krakow herrings (rollmops), zurek soup with white sausage and apple pie. The restaurant has been around for quite a while, and has a good, loyal following. An ideal place for a relaxed dinner, Cechowa is a good alternative if you've had your fill of the regular thigh-slapping live music offered by a number of other restaurants. Poles love their puddings, and Cechowa is well-known for its sweet trolley. Give the vanilla ice-cream cake its due desserts!

"Excellent food & service in quietly elegant surroundings. Tremendous value for money - we ate there twice, once for dinner and then again for lunch on our last day. Particularly recommend the potato cakes with goulash and the sour soup with potato and sausage. Well worth a visit!"

"A really great find. We especially enjoyed the bigos and the cracow herring. Lovely staff and intimate atmosphere. We ate twice and the bills were extremely reasonable. Also indulged in vodkas in neat little tall stemmed iced glasses. Recommended!!"

"We came across this restaurant while looking for another one, as we were cold, wet and tired we decided to try it and we weren't disappointed. We both had Zurek (soup), which was delicious. When the bill arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find that 2 portions of soup and 2 beers was only £5."

"My daughter and I stumbled on Cechowa by accident. What wonderful food! The prices were reasonable, the restaurant intimate and charming and the food was fabulous. The best we had in Krakow. "

"This restaurant is a real gem! Just one street back from the main square, so very central and well worth looking for. The food is traditional Polish, which is cooked and served to perfection. We have eaten here every time we have visited Crakow (3 times this year) and have never been disappointed. The food beats the so called "authentic" cellar restaurants hands down, and has a very pleasant atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable and the food great."

"Bit of a find this one - reasonably priced food that's fresh and tasty, plus its close to the centre of town. Steak Tartare is the speciality of the house, which may not be everyone's idea of a great meal, but there are a good range of other Polish dishes available. Cheerful service."
