A zakatek is a little nook or corner, and this cafe is certainly one of Cracow's hidden gems. It's tucked away in a tiny courtyard off the market square, and it's a charming place to come for a quiet drink or snack. In classic Cracow style, it seems that the clock has stopped here and that you have left the world behind. Antique odds and ends set the tone, and brushes of dried plants emerge from the corners. Fading posters of herbs and plants add a pleasantly eccentric touch, and you could well imagine a distinguished pre-war botanist strolling in with his elegantly trimmed whiskers and steel-rimmed spectacles. Settle down with one of Zakatek's wholesome sandwiches or salads, and let the old gramophone transport you away.
