It may be a bit of a tongue-twister for non-Poles, but Pszczyna is far and away one of the most picturesque destinations in Western Poland. Make it a day-trip, or head off for the entire weekend. It's an hour and a half to the town by car from Cracow, and the town itself is a clean and cosy sort of a place. Its jewel in the crown is this sumptuous palace, which is set in an attractively landscaped park. The castle was once the seat of the Princes of Pless, and it is one of very few grand residences in Poland to have preserved the bulk of its furnishings. A deservedly popular destination.
