Pieskowa Skala Castle

|
Although liable to become inundated with groups during the Summer season, Pieskowa Skala is one of the highlights of the Malopolska region. Set in a lush valley 40 minutes bus-ride from Cracow, the castle is an arresting, fairy tale concoction that was originally one of the 'Eagles Nests' that protected the region during the medieval era. Altered and expanded many times over the centuries, the castle boasts a princely gateway and courtyard, whilst inside there is a delightful exhibition of art and artefacts culled from the Royal Collection at Wawel. The rooms follow chronological themes, ranging through Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Biedermeier. Several are undergoing what seems like an eternal renovation, but it's worth the trip nonetheless. |

Beautifully preserved castle and grounds. Well worth the 10 zloty admission. Plan to spend at least 1/2 day to see the various rooms inside the castle as well as the castle grounds that a wonderful display of fauna set in the Ojcow National Park. It is hard to imagine that this beautiful area is only 1/2 hour from Krakow ... a "must see" for any visitor.
