Bunkier Sztuki website

The Bunker of Art is one of the few modernist buildings to have made a home in Cracow's hallowed Old Town. Controversial from the start, Cracow's leading centre of contemporary art has as many fans as it does foes. On the exhibition front, there are rich pickings to be found as the Bunkier regularly snaps up international artists who are interested in exhibiting in Poland. Home-grown art is well represented too. If you can't stand art, the outdoor cafe may yet rock your boat, it's one of the best in town. We stumbled across this one by accident, and ended up spending a good portion of our break here..! Have to confess I didn't see the exhibition proper but the outdoor cafe was great.

the 'world press photo'-exhibition was good, but (maybe i picked the wrong moment to go there) there were too much visitors... it wasn't relaxing at all.

Very good exhibition (World Press Photo) as popula es ever with stacks of visitors. Lots of disturbing images, some clearly 'stage-managed' but nonetheless well worth a visit.

In my opinion, a completely different class of contemporary art is to be found in Poland, no more so than at this excellent gallery. With none of the pretension of contemporary "Western" media-seeking artists (and with far more wit and intelligence), Poland's art fraternity deserve (and will eventually get) the acknowledgement they rightly deserve. Top marks!
