** Collection moved to Niepolomice due to far-reaching renovation works!**
This gallery, which is located in the splendid Cloth Hall building, presents late eighteenth and nineteenth century Polish painting, the latter being an extraordinarily fruitful epoch in Polish art . The gallery could certainly do with an overhaul, and the 'Four in Hand Room' in particular feels more like a storage room than a pantheon to some of the greatest names in Polish painting. That said, the museum is still worth a look. The paintings by Piotr Michalowski are a revelation, and there are more than enough gems to make up for the duds. Even some of the less masterly works often communicate something valuable about Polish history. Worth dropping by. Free on Thursdays.
