MOCAK, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow, opened to national acclaim in early 2011, and even the president of Poland was in attendance.
Such a grand opening was a hard act to follow, but the museum has succeeded in delivering on all its promises of providing a showcase for the best art of the past two decades. It boasts an impressive permanent collection, including works of international artists such as Tomasz Bajer, Edward Dwurnik, Krištof Kintera, Ragnar Kjartansson, Jarosław Kozłowski, Robert Kuśmirowski, Lars Laumann, Bartek Materka, Maria Stangret, Beat Streuli, Krzysztof Wodiczko. There are also regular temporary exhibitions, and the museum is home to Poland’s only specialist conservation workshop for contemporary art.
Set alongside the exhibitions, next too and partly within the workshops at the former Schindler factory, are a library, bookshop and cafe. |

I went here a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic - far better than I had been anticipating. The museum itself is an impressive building, except for those with vertigo there is a section with a glass floor which is somewhat 'challenging'. Combine your visit with a tour round the Schindler Factory next door. There are also a couple of decent cafes opposite to grab a light bite....
