Museum of the History of Photography

|
Cracovians care a lot about photography. Not least because most people you meet here happen to be artists of one kind or another. It comes as little surprise then to find that Cracow has a museum of a photography. That said, sadly, not half as many people do find this place as we imagine would like to do so. Not because the museum is well-hidden, but it's a ten minute stroll from the Planty down Karmelicka. If time's short, jump on tram 4, 8, 13, 24 or 38. This museum is small, but anyone with a soft spot for photography will be charmed by the old photographic contraptions and the one-off exhibitions from the museum's archives. Also look out for less Cracow-centric exhibitions - the museum has held shows of figures such as Eric Lessing, Cecil Beaton and Man Ray, besides many others. |

This museum should have a higher profile. The permanent exhibition shows you that the Chinese were 'up to something' using magic mirrors more than 2,000 years ago and then it continues right up to the introduction of 35mm cameras. There's even a darkroom to look at.
